Easter in Sussex is so close and can’t come quickly enough, for all of us being kept in the depths of winter, with all of that rain. I think we are all looking forward to warmer days and longer evenings.

Easter, although not always the warmest, still brings a sense of transformation and hope, with some of us enjoying some time off to rest and spend time with friends and family.

Whether you are based in West or East Sussex, there is something on for everyone. There is a range of family-friendly events, easter egg hunts and great days out.

There are also some nice activities for us adults who might need a slow Easter Brunch in a countryside vineyard, an evening of crafting or learning how to make our own hot cross buns.

Chichester

Forest Explorers

The whole family can enjoy the selection of games available in the event marquee, including a daffodil bean bag toss and giant Jenga. Enjoy the beautiful spring colours in the 49-acre St. Roche’s Arboretum, with stunning sweeping views of the South Downs.

The Shepherd’s Hut will be open on the picnic lawn, serving a delicious selection of Easter-themed treats and drinks. The Gardens Restaurant will be open for lunch options.

Easter Bunny Boat Trips

Enjoy the popular Easter Bunny Boat Trip on the Chichester Canal this Easter in Sussex. There will be spring-themed activities and treats to enjoy, with all guests receiving refreshments.

Aldingbourne Country Centre is always a great day out with the little ones as there is so much to do! From the little play village, farm animals, soft play, mini golf, book nook, woodland adventure and go karts.

We went to the Easter event last year and the kids loved it. This year there will be egg hunts, magic shows, balloon modelling, pond dipping and crafts.

Easter Holiday Activities at Weald & Downland Living Museum

The Weald and Downland Museum is celebrating the arrival of spring as the Museum bursts back into life this Easter Holidays. Flowers bloom, lambs skip in the fields, ducklings hatch, and the whole site awakens after winter’s rest.

There will be a solid two weeks of family-friendly Easter holiday activities inspired by nature, folklore, and rural traditions.

Mudlarks and Crafts at RSPB Pagham Harbour

RSPB Pagham Harbour is always a wonderful day out, immersed in nature. Pagham Harbour is a glorious and peaceful nature reserve, one of the few undeveloped stretches of the Sussex coast.

Gozzle at Arundel WWT

This spring, Arundel WWT are teaming up with Macmillan Children’s Books to explore the wonderful world of wetlands with Gozzle the gosling, from Julia Donaldson and Sara Ogilvie’s freshly hatched picture book.

Follow the interactive trail to discover what it takes for your fuzzy little friend to become a grown-up goose. There will be funny animal poses along the way, mini gozzles hiding along the route and an action-packed games and activities.

This is a great time of year to visit Wakehurst, as there will be a carpet of bluebells across the woodlands which is always beautiful to witness.

East Grinstead

Standen House and Gardens Easter Trail

The gardens at Standen House and Gardens National Trust are looking beautiful already and they expect a visit from the Easter bunny! There will be an Easter trail with plenty of fun activities for the whole family.

Activities such as hook a duck, skittles and opportunities to take plenty of selfies with Easter decorations, with Easter eggs hidden the house itself.

Prices are £3.50 per trail which includes an Easter trail sheet, bunny ears and dairy or vegan and Free From* chocolate egg.

Midhurst

Easter Trail at Cowdray Ruins

Cowdray Ruins are running a family friendly Easter Trail, set amongst the historic grounds. Pick up your activity sheet and follow a family-friendly trail along the footpaths, spotting clues along the way.

Once the trail is complete, head back to the ruins to enjoy hands-on arts and crafts in the Tudor Kitchen, where little ones can get creative and make something to take home. Every child who completes the trail will receive a cuddly bunny as a special Easter reward.

This is a perfect family friendly event and a great day out filled with history, creativity, and seasonal fun.

This spring, Tulleys Tulip Fest showcases 1.5 million tulips in a stunning display of over 100 varieties across its Sussex fields. Visitors can enjoy Dutch-inspired street food, live music, and unique attractions like the Whispering Windmill, Tulipa Lake, and the observation wheel.

Scavenger Hunt at Buchan Country Park

Buchan Country Park is a great place to meet family and friends; in fact, this is one of my favourite meeting spots when catching up with friends from London. The Country Park comes alive in Spring with beautiful, vibrant flowers.

The Friends of Buchan Country Park are running an egg hunt for families at the Phil Haskell Wild Gardens.

It is the perfect spot for watching wildlife, walking or having a picnic.

Littlehampton

Easter Eggstravaganza

Head to the High Street in Littlehampton for a free family event. It is due to be packed with fun activities for all ages. Enjoy a drop-in art workshop, magician performances, face painting, rides, soft play, and an Easter Bunny & Alice in Wonderland magic show, plus stalls and cake decorating.

Local shops will also be hosting a range of activities.

Friends Of Mewsbrook Park Easter Bunny Hunt

Families are invited to join a free Easter Egg Hunt at Mewsbrook Park, where children can search for Easter signs hidden around the park. The first 300 children to complete the hunt will receive an Easter treat from Monty the Mewsbrook Duck.

Entry is free, but participants must collect a ticket from the organiser’s gazebo to ensure treats are distributed fairly.

Easter Trail at Leonardslee Gardens

The beautiful and ever-captivating Leonardslee Gardens are hosting an Easter trail, making a great family day out. Complete an Easter trail of clues, stickers, and challenges across the gardens, finishing with a fun obstacle course and a prize. 

Armed with a trail booklet and a pocket full of stickers, children set off across the gardens to crack clues, hunt for characters, solve plant puzzles, and complete challenges hidden among the trees, lakes, and gardens.  There is an Easter prize at the end of the trail that kids will be sure to hop, skip and jump to!

Leonardslee Gardens is one of the Best Family Days Out in Sussex, and it is easy to spend the whole day there, immersed in its enchanting trail. The playground is a huge hit with my kid, with large wooden structures for them to climb and explore.

Easter Egg Trails at Horsham Museum and Art Gallery

Horsham Museum and Art Gallery will host a free easter egg trail, alongside Easter-themed crafts from only £1. This will be free admission and a great way to keep costs down on Easter Half Term.

Spring Fun Day, The Terrace, AMEX Stadium

The AMEX Stadium in Brighton is hosting a jam-packed family fun day on The Terrace. From 10am, there will be a day full of entertainment for the whole family. There will be arts and crafts, balloon creations and childrens entertainment for belly laughs all round.

There will also be a whole host of football games, a family springtime quiz on the big screens, and a special visit from Brighton mascot Gully. There will also be a free screening of Peter Rabbit at 12:30pm.

Drusillas is a great day out with kids. This Easter in Sussex, they are running a free Easter egg trail, whilst kids can enjoy the park. There are many animals to see within the zoo, there is a splash pad which works well now the weather is improving and both an indoor and outdoor playground.

Drusilla’s is offering £1 entry to kids with a full fee-paying adult throughout this Easter half term only.

Easter Half Term at Sharnfold Farm

Sharnfold Farm, set in the beautiful East Sussex countryside, are launching its brand new play area. Little explorers can enjoy 3 colourful barns set up for imaginative role play. There are also giant building blocks and plenty of open play space for climbing, creating and generally running wild!

This Easter, families can pick up an activity sheet on arrival and join in on the Big Bunny Hunt whilst following the Easter-themed trail to track down the hidden bunnies.
