About Secret Sussex

Secret Sussex was born out of a curiosity about all that Sussex has to offer. From the majestic, rolling South Downs, dotted with interesting old villages and pubs, to the bustling independent businesses and wellness opportunities.

I am Gillian and I have lived in Sussex for 6 years. I found myself stuck in a “Worthing bubble”, having moved here from London directly before the global pandemic. I enjoyed many woodland walks and wild swims during this time.

However, post-pandemic and with two small children saw myself itching to get out and explore what more Sussex has to offer. The children often come along with me.

Coming from Ireland, my curiosity of how the land intertwines with culture and language is always something that deeply fascinates me. I was delighted to discover and learn more of the various folklore and rich history that lies within Sussex.

Sussex is a unique place, with it’s own distinct culture and identity. Easily accessible from the capital, London, it offers an attractive place not only to live but to visit and holiday, with unique Sussex traditions.

Sussex is renowned for its beautiful gardens, stunning vineyards and wineries, alongside multiple independent businesses and breweries. It has a strong tradition of bonfire celebrations and musical heritage.

Bursting with creatives and creativity is not surprising given the inspiring landscape and open-minded places such as Brighton.

Secret Sussex offers you a guide to what’s on, where to go and hidden treasures in the beautiful communities across both East and West Sussex.

I have a background in food and travel blogging, so naturally, I set up Secret Sussex.

Thank you for being here.
