Looking for the best place to enjoy the sunset in Worthing? You are in the right place! Worthing is in such a great location for catching a stunning sunset. Enveloped by numerous high points of the South Downs and with a stretch of lovely beach, here are my favourite places to watch the sunset, any time of year.
There are some lovely things to do in Worthing, but catching the sunset is free and nourishes the soul. Some of these sunsets will be a short drive outside of Worthing.
Firstly, I always check what exact time the sun is setting, and then I try and get to my sunset spot about 30 minutes before it is due to set. This is because I adore the fast-changing colours of the sky as the sun is going down.
Cissbury Ring
Cissbury Ring is one of the most historic hills on the South Downs, offering panoramic views of Worthing and the English Channel. When South Facing, you can also see Brighton when facing East.

Cissbury Ring is such a stunning place to watch the sunset. There are often wild horses grazing on the grassy hills.
High Salvington
High Salvington is one of my favourite places to visit, especially for sunset. Located at the top of Salvington Hill, drive up Honeysuckle Lane to the car park. You could even watch the sunset from your car.

There is a vast, stretching view, right down to the sea and the sunset is just stunning here. I love hearing the dusk chorus in Spring and Summer, I once even spotted an owl, which was magical.
There are some surrounding woods if you fancy a walk prior to sunset. Many people head her to walk their dogs.
Highdown Hill
Highdown Hill takes a little more effort to get to the beautiful views; however, it is so worth it. With stretching views of the coast and the English Channel below.
From the car park, you should follow the trail and go through the gate and keep walking straight to get to the summit.

The last time I watched sunset here, we had just finished a beautiful meal at the Highdown Hotel, then, with full bellies, my parents and I wandered to the hill to admire the sunset.
The picture is a July sunset. We didn’t make it to the summit this night, as my Dad had overdone his steps that day and maybe had had a Guinness or two!
Chanctonbury Ring
Chanctonbury Ring is an excellent location to enjoy the sunset in Worthing. It is a prominent hill fort (old Iron Age), offering panoramic views across the Downs, towns and across the sea.

Many say Chanctonbury Ring holds mystical and spiritual energy, which is no surprise given how connected to nature it is, with its stunning sunset and sunrise views. Some even say Chanctonbury Ring is one of the Most Haunted Places in Sussex!
The Beach
Although the sun does not set to the south all year round, you can enjoy the sunset on Worthing Beach in Winter. Throughout Winter, the sun will rise and set to the South and Southeast, providing us with some stunning scenes.

I absolutely adore going for a sunrise or sunset swim in the winter on Worthing beach, despite the chill, wrap up warm and enjoy!
Let me know where your favourite place is to catch the sunset in Worthing, or even across Sussex.
