Tranquil Glamping in West Sussex with Zephyr Domes

Off-grid glamping in West Sussex doesn’t get much better than this. Think fully furnished, spacious domes with panoramic views of the surrounding land, waking up to bird song or the rain pelting down.

I visited Zephyr Domes as a winter glamping retreat, and it was just the tonic I needed, a place to unplug from the system, surround myself in nature and cosy up on a winter’s evening with the log burner and a steaming hot cuppa.

Zephyr Domes is set in a meadow, in the small village of West Chiltington, Pulborough, a unique rural area with three off-grid domes, offering guests the perfect opportunity to unwind, rest and relax. It is just a short 20-minute drive from Worthing.

Hosted by the wonderful Su and Tim, Zephyr Domes have a real well-being focus and offer a place for guests to switch off from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and reconnect with nature. It is an adult-only glamping site, although if you wish to book all three domes, then children are welcome.

Su is a therapist, coach and fatigue recovery specialist, offering wellness packages that can be booked in addition to your stay.

Zephyr domes are almost true off-grid with no electricity and no Wi-Fi, encouraging you to unplug. The domes are kitted out with cosy beds, comfortable armchairs to enjoy the stunning views, log burners and outdoor fire pits.

There is a communal shower block with hot showers. There are composting toilets and two outdoor cooking areas, one offering shelter for all weather eventualities.

There are some lovely walks in the surrounding areas, with stunning views of the South Downs. Being set in a meadow means it is a great place for spotting wildlife. Additionally, it is an area with dark night skies, offering guests stunning views of the stars on clear nights.

We went to sleep on a January night with the rain pelting on the dome’s rooftop and the log burner slowly ticking along, keeping us cosy. It might have been the depths of winter, but we were right at home!

On the recommendation of our wonderful host Su, we had a short 10-minute walk to a local community pub, The Queen’s Head. There, we had a lovely dinner and drinks with a menu inspired by the Caribbean, while the atmosphere was warm and welcoming.

We woke up for a winter sunset about 7:30, when we could hear the dawn chorus, hooting away was a tawny owl, which was just magical. We enjoyed the beautiful changing skyscape from the comfort of our bed.

I cannot recommend Zephyr domes enough for glamping in West Sussex, especially if you are considering a digital detox.
